Myopia Control

As myopia increases, the eye may become longer. Higher levels of myopia are associated with a greater lifetime risk of retinal detachment, glaucoma, cataracts, and myopic macular degeneration. For this reason, early detection and regular monitoring are important.
Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, causes distant objects to appear blurry. It often begins during childhood and may continue to progress as the eyes grow.
Traditional glasses and contact lenses correct blurry vision, but they do not necessarily slow the progression of myopia.
Signs Your Child May Be Nearsighted
Your child may benefit from a myopia evaluation if they:
Squint to see distant objects
Sit very close to the television or classroom board
Hold books or screens close to their face
Complain of blurry distance vision
Experience frequent headaches or eye strain
Have a prescription that continues to increase
Have one or both parents with myopia
Our Approach to Myopia Management
Every child’s eyes, lifestyle, and rate of progression are different. We begin with a comprehensive evaluation that may include:
Vision and prescription assessment
Eye health examination
Review of previous prescription changes
Evaluation of family history and visual habits
Discussion of schoolwork, screen use, and outdoor activity
A personalized monitoring and management plan
Follow-up visits allow us to evaluate changes over time and adjust the plan when necessary.
